The drawbacks to incandescent lamps, but are the same ones faced by Thomas Edison. They’re notorious power hogs. They don’t last for very long at all, so you’ve got to keep buying replacements. They also often have very hot, which means that you cannot leave them on forever, particularly in a closed cabinet of any kind.
Now, using certain linear cupboard lighting devices, dimmer controls can compensate for these two drawbacks. Dimmers reduce both the power draw of the lamps and the heat the lamps produce.
Xenon is basically a high-end form of incandescent lamp that’s renowned for its longer lamp life. Also, it generates as much heat as conventional incandescents. Again, we are back to that heat issue we spoke and we’re back to relying on dimmers throw warmth and to modulate both levels.
LED Lamps are the most promising luminaires that science has generated to date, and also their impact is now being felt in all levels of commercial and residential lighting.
LEDs resolve the issues of replacement prices with long lamp lifetimes. They also use power than incandescent equivalents. While incandescent and Xenon lamps have a fixed color temperature, LEDs can be found in various levels of heat or coolness. Warm tone LEDs offer the same color as Xenon, and even cooler choices for whiter or there are cooler choices, crisper tones.
The sole disadvantage to LED festoon lamps is that the initial price of LED lamps is significantly higher than Xenon or Incandescent lamps. But, they will compensate for their price by reductions in power use and heat load on air conditioning.
There’s no fast and hard optimal luminance amount for cabinet lighting all displays. The general rule of thumb you need to follow, however, is based on the reflectivity of your contents. The more reflective the surfaces and contents, the higher lighting levels you can utilize.
When you have a closed cabinet, never use xenon over 5 watts, and be sure to use your dimmer controllers to regulate the intensity of your cabinet lighting. Use low wattage LEDs instead.
Some manufacturers create both horizontally mounted lights and vertically mounted lights so that cupboard styles of custom cabinetry can be appropriately illuminated. Strip lighting fittings are extremely low profile and are easy to conceal, making them the dream come true of the interior designer and the collector who would like the men and women in the area.
